RNIB urgently need case studies

RNIB need case studies to put forward to a NICE consulation. They are looking for views and experiences of individuals affected by vision loss or those who have experienced the treatments, known as Lucentis and Dexamethasone.

If you or someone you know has been affected by any of these conditions please tell RNIB your story:

  • Have you been or do you know someone with diabetes who has been affected by vision loss due to diabetic macular oedema?
  • Have you or someone you know received a treatment known as Lucentis (Ranibizumab) for diabetic macular oedema?
  • Have you been or do you know someone with retinal vein occlusion who has been affected by vision loss due to this condition?
  • Have you or someone you know received a treatment known as Ozurdex (Dexamethasone)?

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), an NHS organisation that makes recommendations for the use of medications in the NHS, is reviewing two new treatments, one for diabetic macular oedema, a type of diabetic retinopathy, and one for retinal vein occlusion.

RNIB are preparing to submit views on this to NICE as part of their consultation process and would like to include case studies of the views and experiences of individuals affected by vision loss or those who have experienced the treatments, known as Lucentis and Dexamethasone.

This will help inform the case made about the availability of these treatment options. RNIB are also working with Diabetes UK on this in relation to the treatment on diabetic macular oedema and will be sharing the views and experiences we receive with each other.

Personal information such as names and addresses or where a person has received their care will not be included in the submission.

If you would be happy to share your experiences and views, please contact Andy Pike (e-mail: andy.pike@rnib.org.uk, tel: 0207 391 2026) or Charlie Morris (e-mail: charlotte.morris@rnib.org.uk, tel: 0207 391 2055) so that they can arrange a suitable time to contact you.

More information about NICE is available on their website: www.nice.org.uk.
