Exclusive publishing deal for books for children with sight loss

One of the UK’s leading academic publishers has signed an exclusive deal with the National Blind Children’s Society (NBCS) to make its list available in large print

Oxford University Press (OUP) is supplying digital files of popular titles from its Oxford Learning Tree, including Read With Biff, Chip and Kipper series. Further titles will be added in due course.

The titles will be added to the 2,600 titles on the NBCS catalogue which are available in large-print individually customised to children and young adults’ individual eye conditions. NBCS chief executive Carolyn Fullard said: ‘This is a very exciting development for our large-print publishing operation.

‘Having free digital access to such an important book list means we can reach many more children with visual difficulties who otherwise would have limited access to the books normally available to their sighted friends.

‘I hope lots more publishers will join OUP in making their digital files available to us so that we can make even more large-print books available where they are needed.’

As well as supplying books on order direct to its members NBCS produces the fact and fiction titles for the children and young people’s section of the RNIB large print library.
