Mayor re-launches Stafford’s Action for Blind People centre
Stafford’s registered blind Mayor, Councillor Stan Highfield re-launched Action for Blind People’s centre, based in the town’s North Walls area, on Monday 25 July 2011.
The Mayor has recently named Action as one of his charities of the year. Over the next 12 months he will be supporting fundraising and awareness events, helping to put the Action’s local services on the map for visually impaired people.
The Mayor explains: “Action is already established in Stafford, but many people with sight loss aren’t aware of it. Being registered blind myself, I know the everyday challenges that people with sight loss face, and the difference that can me made to confidence and independence, given the right support. That’s why I want to put this hidden charity on the map. It provides a service with a local focus, which the town should be proud of.”
