I bet you thought I had disappeared but no I’m back!
I hold my hands up that I have not kept my New Year’s promise to blog on a regular basis. But now I am back and look out as here come my Action blogs.
Panning for gold in Australia
Well it has been some time since I have written a blog for Action and my only excuse can be that I have been busy training for the next World Blind Match Racing Championships which I will be taking part in this March in Australia. Team GBR will be off down under to pan for more gold and bring it back to Blighty.
A wicked time at Wicked
Audio description is just not for TV and film it is also for the visual arts and theatre. At the beginning of my Action blogging you may have heard me talk about the day job. Well now I thought it was time to let you all know what audio description in the theatre is all about and what it means to me personally and not just plug VocalEyes!
One man’s attempt to get fit and keep in trim for his next sailing championships
Now all the celebrating is over from the sailing worlds in Italy it is fine time to get back in the gym and work off those extra pints of beer!
The Italian Job
Team GB landed in Italy for the 2010 IFDS World Blind Match Racing championships after quite a stressful flight from Stanstead. The first day was taken up with registration and sight classification check ups, which in my case meant I had an Italian man waving two fingers in front of my face to make sure that my sight classification was definitely B2 and I was not Ben Ainslie!
Guide, companion, man’s best friend, a mobility aid and two big brown eyes
There comes a time in probably every blind person’s life when that question comes: 'So when are you going to get a guide dog?'
A voyage on the high seas: yachts, dinghies and blind sailing
Life is a certainly a journey and there are many ways to get to wherever you are going. Although I started out with two feet on dry land, they have not remained there, as I had a rather life changing experience when I set foot on a yacht for the first time some 20 years ago. I was invited to Haling Island on the South Coast as part of an annual event, which is still going strong, called “Blind Week”, where kind yacht owners allow a couple of blind people to take the helm and crew their boats, spending a week afloat learning to sail. It was mind-blowing.
One man’s journey of sight loss
Well hello and welcome to my very first blog for Action for Blind People. I hope to bring some enjoyable and valuable insights into my life as I go about living it.
