Ability to 'think on your feet' is a vital skill in a Welfare Rights Officer’s armoury. It is for example a useful weapon to shoot down an exocet question from a tribunal panel member such as, 'Can you tell me why your client would have difficulty crossing a road when he could be eligible to drive having only lost his sight in one eye? Good News Week

As a spotty teenager into Flower Power and Ban the Bomb, one of my favourite records was ‘Good News Week’. It went something like, ‘its good news week, someone’s dropped a bomb somewhere contaminating the atmosphere and blackening the sky’. I’m sure there must be one or two other latter day hippies that remember it?

I know neither the origin of this statement nor its accuracy in 2009. What I do know from my experience of helping people with a visual impairment is that I often discover benefits that could be claimed, and benefits being received which are too low. I think there are several reasons for this happening.
