Stephen's Story
Five year old Stephen is registered blind, has severe learning difficulties and suffers from cerebral palsy. He cannot sit, crawl or walk and requires constant care and attention.
Because he has very little movement, Stephen was recently found to be suffering from hypothermia. This meant that his parents, already struggling to get by on income support, were faced with an additional heating cost each week just to keep Stephen warm. This was a terrifying prospect until Action for Blind People offered Stephen's parents an emergency cash grant to help them meet the bills.
Stephen's mother says "We just couldn't afford it and there was no-one else to turn to - Action for Blind People really came to our rescue."
