Richard's Story

Richard is blind, and was finding it difficult to get a job as a result of his visual impairment. After speaking to our employment co-coordinator Marika Buczko, Richard took part in a week long work taster with the Audit Commission for which Action supplied the assistive technology. Our Employment Co-ordinator dealt closely with the manager to make sure that they were fully aware of his needs.

The Audit Commission were very impressed with Richard, and not only requested Visual Awareness Training for the Commission but also offered Richard a job Marika then went on to assist the Audit Commission with an application for Access to Work assistance to get the equipment needed for Richard's new position and a support worker, and also arranged for all induction paperwork,to be copied in Braille. We also worked with Richard on an application for Working Tax Credit which ensured that Richard received a large back payment of benefits.

Richard has now been in employment for three months and is enjoying his job, knowing that the team at Action are there to support him and his employer, with any issues that may arise.
