Nina's Story
Nina had always bought aids and equipment to support her visually impaired granddaughter. It never occurred to her that financial help was available. Nina had never heard of Action for Blind People when she noticed Action’s mobile Sight Loss information Service parked in Workington town centre.
Nina went on board to ask where she might be able to find a talking calculator. Her visually impaired granddaughter was having difficulty coping with her Maths school work and she was hoping that this might help.
It soon became clear that Nina was paying for almost all the aids and equipment that her daughter required. Our Mobile team advised Nina that her granddaughter may be eligible for benefits - Nina had never considered this as an option.
We were able to provide Nina and her granddaughter with an area on the mobile where they could discuss their situation in private with a Welfare Rights Officer.
Nina and her granddaughter left with an armful of leaflets, sound advice and smiles.
£10 Mobile support
£10 a month will mean that our Mobile Units can reach people who may otherwise not receive the support. These vehicles travel the country bringing information and advice to blind and partially sighted people, many living in areas where there is very little help available.
