May's Story
May is a 52 year old homeless woman with early onset age-related macular degeneration. Over a period of eight years she had lost her partner and the home they shared, she had been mugged at knife point and subjected to physical and verbal abuse.
When our Housing team in Epsom came into contact with May she had no-one to turn to. She had been sleeping temporarily in a friend’s living room, stacked floor to ceiling with her furniture. But her friend was running the risk of being in breach of her lease and so, with nowhere to go, May was facing the prospect of living rough.
Action was able to offer May a flat at Swail House in Epsom. The impact on May’s life has been enormous she now has the security and support that had been lacking for many years. This year May’s two sisters visited from Canada and the USA for the first time in years. May is thrilled they will be staying with her in her own flat.
