Fundraising tips
It can be difficult to raise sponsorship when you are taking part in a fundraising activity or event for charity. It is important to plan your fundraising so you make the most of all the opportunities and networks open to you. Have a think of all the different groups of people you could approach for support.
Below is a list of all the groups you may be linked to and some fundraising ideas:
Clubs and Organisations
- Put up sponsorship forms on the club's notice boards.
- Run a raffle and ask local companies/contacts to donate prizes.
- Organise an event - a mini tournament against the club's rivals, a pitch collection at a match or a quiz night in the club bar.
Work and Colleagues
- E-mail all your colleagues and ask them to sponsor you.
- Put information on your company intranet.
- Get a feature in your company's newsletter.
- Ask your company if they will 'match' what you raise - many companies support charities in this way and will match what you raise £ for £, potentially doubling your fundraising efforts.
- See if your employer will make a donation from their charity budget.
- Ask your clients and suppliers if they will make a contribution to your target.
Friends and Family
- Ask your close friends and family to ask their friends and colleagues to sponsor you.
- Ask your close friends and family if they have contacts at the company they work at or any sports clubs they attend.
- Friends are also great for inviting to any events you may organise.
Fundraising ideas
There are many different ways to raise funds and sponsorship for people with sight loss. Here are some ideas:
- Quiz Night – hold a quiz night. We can provide a quiz if you don’t already run one.
- Raffle – sell raffle tickets to raise money. Ask local companies for prizes
- Snooker/Darts competition – participants pay to enter and there is a prize for the winner
- BBQ or party – charge people who attend £10 with proceeds going to your sponsorship target
- Mini tournament against the clubs rivals - organise a competition, or a pitch collection at a sports event
- Fashion Show – ask local designers to donate their clothes for free and charge people £10 to attend
- Sponsored slim – ask friends or family to donate £1 for every pound in weight you lose
- Open houses or gardens – have an open house or garden weekend in your village or town
- Cheese and wine tasting – with the proceeds going towards your sponsorship target
- Car-boot sales or e-bay – take your old junk to a car boot sale or put it on an online auction site like e-bay. Have a clear out and raise money towards your sponsorship at the same time!
