Last year 51-year-old George had the worst Christmas imaginable. He started to go blind.

Instead of wrapping presents for his grandchildren and looking forward to enjoying time with his family, George’s deteriorating sight thrust him into a terrifying and unfamiliar world.

A world where his last refuge – his home – became a frightening and unsafe place to be. Without essential equipment, he couldn’t safely make a cup of tea or negotiate the stairs.

Then one day, something terrible happened. George fell from the very top of the stairs to the bottom. His front teeth were smashed and he was left bruised and shaken. It was a miracle it wasn’t a lot worse.

Action for Blind People responded immediately. We made sure Social Services fitted safety rails and other equipment. We also made sure George received mobility training so he could learn to move around more safely and start rebuilding his shattered confidence.

One of our Housing Co-ordinators is now helping George move to a bungalow, where he can be free from the fear of another life-threatening fall.

Sadly, there are many more vulnerable blind and partially sighted people struggling to cope. They too are at risk in their own homes or facing other crises in their lives.

Please help us be there for more people like George by making a gift today. There are so many ways your gift could make a difference.

It could help keep one of our Mobile Sight Loss Information vehicles on the road, bringing vital information and advice to people across the country.

It could help provide a vulnerable blind or partially sighted person with a safe place to live in Action’s supported housing. Or it could help pay for a visually impaired person to receive home visits from an Action Co-ordinator, who will assess their situation and give them the practical and emotional support they need.
