Ron

“I get the impression that people think I'm invisible. I don't know what they're going to do, coz I cannot see. I feel like I am on edge the whole time. I've had someone stop and talk to the dog and then the next minute I know someone is trying to get into my back pocket.

“How can I put this, you’re so vulnerable, so vulnerable. I find it more when I am out on my own. When I am with someone who is sighted it doesn’t happen, but when you’re on your own it happens. You get kids coming up, 12, 13, 14. These kids tried to mug me – asked me if I was blind and then that was it.

“I've also had little kids as young and nine or ten trying to steal my white cane and get it between my legs [to trip me up]. I've had kids come up to me and say, can we help you across the road sir? They took me into the middle of the road and left me. On a main road and left me.

“When I go out of my property and through the garden gate and I'm absolutely frightened to death, coz I'm frightened about what might happen to me.”
