Lee's story

Lee, 33, and his wife were living in rented accommodation that was in a severe state of disrepair. He was experiencing verbal abuse from his landlord who was threatening to evict him due to rent arrears. Action supported Lee in making a homeless application, wrote a supporting statement and ensured that Lee was fully informed of his rights and responsibilities.

Listen to Lee's story.

Sheila's story

Sheila was living in a women's refuge that was frequently targeted by gangs and where residents demanded money and sold drugs. She was in a state of total despair, but within a week, Lee managed to secure her accommodation in Manchester city centre.

The Action team also supported many other aspects of Sheila's life, including helping her to find a job. They then worked with her prospective employer who had initial concerns about hiring Sheila due to a lack of visual awareness training.

The future is looking much brighter for Sheila. "I'm a fighter and won't be beaten by anything."

Listen why Sheila thinks sight loss shouldn't hold you back.

Mohammed's story

Mohammed, 28, has been visually impaired since birth and has always found it very difficult travelling around. Action supported Mohammed and helped him to buy a special cane to help him when he’s out and about, which was particularly useful when travelling to job interviews. Action also offered Mohammed support in applying for jobs and accessing the appropriate technology. He is now able to travel more independently and his confidence has increased dramatically.
