Vision in Enterprise

This project seeks to address the barriers faced by blind and partially sighted people trying to enter the labour market.

The aim of the project is to transfer the results of Action for Blind People’s, London Development Agency funded project: Enterprise in Sight. This project developed tailored business support services for those looking to start their own business or to become self-employed. The target group is business advisers of the visually impaired.

The Vision in Enterprise Research and Needs Analysis (RNA)

The Vision in Enterprise Research and Needs Analysis (RNA) report documents and reviews research undertaken on:

The labour market position for visually impaired people in Europe and in particular in Cyprus, Ireland and Poland
The business support offered to visually imapired people in Europe and in particular in Cyprus, Ireland and Poland

The RNA makes clear there is a higher percentage of economic inactivity amongst visually impaired people in Europe compared to the general population (RNIB 2009 and EBU 2009). The implication is that vocational education and training provision could be improved. The Report also outlines the barriers to self employment for visually impaired people.

Project outcomes

Tangible results will be a toolkit of bespoke learning materials, competencies and delivery methods for VET professionals with underpinning materials such as leaflets and reference guides. The main impact of the project will be widespread awareness that the visually impaired can successfully achieve self-employment and develop enterprise given sensitive and appropriate support.
