Frequently Asked Questions about Service User Participation

Who can get involved with Service User Participation?

We welcome anyone who has used Action’s services, or who might need to, plus friends and family of blind or partially sighted people.

What is involved?

There is a range of options available, including joining a group, attending events as an Action representative, responding to surveys and questionnaires or helping us online.

Is there training and support is available?

Support is provided by Action staff and volunteers to suit the Group or project being undertaken. Training is available for some activities e.g. to prepare people to sit on our recruitment panels, or to help chair meetings.

Are costs covered?

We will cover reasonable travel costs e.g. local bus or rail fares. Expenses for taxi fares or long distance travel must be agreed in advance with the local Action Team and it may not always be possible to cover the entire cost. Action will always work with people to ensure the best value travel arrangements can be made e.g. shared taxis and assisting people to apply for concessionary travel passes.
