Travel and shopping - Birmingham

We have a dedicated team providing practical support and advice to blind and partially sighted people wishing to travel and shop locally in Birmingham and help with the weekly shop or plan a one-off trip to buy a birthday present or get a haircut.

This one year pilot scheme, starting in Spring 2011, will enable participants to feel more confident when travelling further afield for work and leisure activities.

Buddy system

A travel and shopping buddy service on journeys around the city. We can accompany clients on regular trips or one-off visits.

Advice

We can offer advice about the best ways to use public transport, how to apply for financial assistance around travel or shopping and information about any other additional help.

Working with transport providers

Local people with a sight loss tell us that staff on buses, trains and in shops who have received training on how to assist people who are visually impaired, provide some of the best help that is available to them. We are working with local transport providers to ensure that staff are aware of the needs of visually impaired people.
