Join the campaign to stop the spread of 'shared surfaces'

9 June 2009

Come along to City Hall on 17 June to show the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson that plans to introduce shared surfaces into areas such as Exhibition Rd in Kensington are completely unacceptable to blind and partially sighted people.

The event will commence at 8am and we intend to meet on the Embankment at 7.45am to allow enough time for the lobby to become organised.

Where: Assemble outside City Hall in London (nearest tube station is London Bridge)
When: Wednesday 17 June, 7.45am

The aim is to circle City Hall with representatives to show a united pan-disability front against a design that discriminates against some disabled people.

The reason for targeting the Mayor is that he has allocated over £13 million pounds to help the development of these schemes.

Join the demonstration and influence Boris Johnson

We need as many people as possible to turn up to support the event and have the impact we need to influence the Assembly Members and Team Boris on the day. So invite friends, family, society members, neighbours, groups to attend the event.

This campaign is being run by Guide Dogs with support from across the Visual impairment sector including RNIB and the National Federation of the Blind.

Travel Arrangements

If you need help with travel and have a group of people in the London area then please contact Caroline Weston on 01189 838388 or email caroline.weston@guidedogs.org.uk .

There will be tea, coffee and a number of banners ready on the day. Please dress appropriately for the weather on the day as this is an outside event. There will also be a team of sighted guides and Stewards on the day operating a service to and from London Bridge Tube Station.

More information about the campaign and the lobby can be found on the Guide Dogs 'say no to shared streets' campaign website.
