Public transport

We all have issues with public transport. Cancellations, overcrowding, price increases, three buses at once and then nothing for an hour - are you feeling irritated yet? Now add blurred or complete loss of vision to the mix.

But things are getting better in London for us bus users thanks to electronic signs and speech on buses and digit signs at bus stops.

Coming to work is a lot easier, in fact any bus journey is easier on a bus when the bus has been fitted out with a system that tells you what route you are on and the bus stops. The speech from the system is clear and easy to understand unless there's a roaring crowd in the background. There are also displays which tell you the bus stops, handy if you can see them or you can't hear the electronic voice.

The electronic signs at bus stops are useful in telling you when the bus is due to arrive. The system is getting better at predicting the arrival time of buses now. Unfortunately it does not have an electronic voice, you still have to have some useful sight. Hopefully there will soon come up with speech for the digital displays at bus stops.
