Actionnaires – A Poem by Liam Midwood

I play sport at Actionnaires,
First I have to go downstairs,
Then I enter the sports hall,
Where I play cricket or football.

In Ju-Jitsu I've gained my orange belt,
Imagine how proud I felt,
To make sure I do the moves right,
I’m with an adult who has sight.

The swimming pool is 25 metres long,
And swimming lengths will make me strong,
I'm helped by my sighted guide,
Who gives me direction from the side.

Goalball is a different sport,
Which is played on a raised marked court,
There is a line the ball must go behind,
The ball has a bell for those who are blind.

In athletics I've had a go at all sorts,
This is great as I love all sports,
Throwing, jumping and running really fast,
To make sure I don't come last.

Actionnaires is a charity,
For children who are blind and VI like me,
I go every week to keep fit,
But that’s only the half of it.

Jake, Adam and Andrew are my great friends,
I ask their advice on the latest trends,
I class them all as a great mate,
And with Susan in charge the club runs great!
